Painted first, printed second
Most wallpaper books pick a look and stay inside it. Anna d'Andrea behaves more like a designer's studio wall: bold cut-paper palms next to delicate eucalyptus sprigs, leopard and zebra next to watercolour gingham, ribboned abstracts next to a quiet willow trail. What holds it together is the hand — nearly everything here reads as painted first and printed second, with the brush marks and paper grain left in.
The colour range is the other half of the argument. Thirty-six plains run from snow and shell through ochre, plum and chartreuse to ink and deep forest, each matched to a print in the book — so you can take a wall as far as you like and still bring the rest of the room back down. Eight designs come instead as 1.59 by 2.80 metre wall panels: three abstract mosaics, three fresco washes and two bold cut-out jungles, for a single wall that behaves like a painting.
Everything is printed in Germany by AS Création on non-woven backing, which holds its dimensions in humidity and strips off dry in whole lengths — the practical part of putting something this expressive on a Bangkok wall. Papers are 10.05 metres by 53 centimetres.
Every design below opens with the flat artwork alongside photographs of it hung in real rooms, so you can judge scale before you commit — several of these are large repeats that change completely at full size. We handle measurement and installation, in English and Thai.
